HNHS Welcomes Jack and Jill of America Read-In

On Sunday, Holy Names welcomed the Oakland/Bay Area Chapter of Jack and Jill of America who sponsored an African American read-in in celebration of Black History month. The campus was a abuzz with students and families as the day began with a reading from Oakland Youth poet laureate Kaylan Black. The read-in continued with workshops for students of all ages. One workshop introduced those as young as 2 to Black heroes. Another taught teens about the mysterious world of NFT's and cryptocurrency. Organizers of the read-in believe that knowledge and, in particular, reading is the key to both learning and passing on the achievements of African Americans.
