Counseling Event Calendar - What to expect from counseling

 

Freshwomen:

  • Meet with counselor in the first month of school
  • Participate in the Freshwomen Retreat in October
  • Class scheduling with counselor
  • Self-refer/referred to counselor as needed (social, emotional, and/or academic issues)
  • Meet with counselor and advisor as needed throughout the year

 

Sophomores:

  • Meet with counselor within the first two months of school
  • Self-refer/referred to counselor as needed (social, emotional, and/or academic issues)
  • Meet with counselor and advisor as needed throughout the year
  • Participate in Sophomore Retreat in September
  • Take PreACT in October
  • Receive PreACT test results, original test, answers, and predicted ACT score
  • ACT/SAT Preparation Parent Night
  • Class scheduling with counselor

 

Juniors:

  • Meet with counselor within the first few months of school
  • Self-refer/referred to counselor as needed (social, emotional, and/or academic issues)
  • Meet with college counselors throughout the year to construct a college list, begin independent research on colleges in September
  • FAFSA/Financial Aid nights in September and November
  • Take the PSAT test in October
  • Receive PSAT test results, original test, answers, and predicted SAT score
  • Participate in the Kairos Retreat
  • Meet with visiting college representatives throughout the year
  • Start visiting colleges (both locally and nationally) during winter, spring, and summer breaks
  • Junior College Workshop in January
  • Take test preparation course, if necessary
  • Class scheduling with counselor
  • Sign up for SAT reasoning, SAT Subject tests and/or ACT test spring semester
  • Begin to write rough draft college essay in the summer prior to Senior year

 

Seniors:

  • Meet with counselor within the first two months of school
  • Self-refer/referred to counselor as needed (social, emotional, and/or academic issues)
  • Meet with college counselors first few months to receive help on college exploration, essays, applications, and financial aid
  • FAFSA/Financial Aid nights in September and November
  • Complete financial aid forms as needed (parents and students) – start this as early as summer
  • Sign up for additional testing as needed (must be completed by December)
  • Give recommenders and counselor Senior Questionnaire by October (give them at least 3 weeks to complete letter of recommendation)
  • Apply to CSUs in October and November and UCs in November
  • Apply to private colleges by their individual due dates
  • Participate in Senior Retreat in March
  • Send Student Intent to Register to college of choice by May 1st
  • Complete Final Transcript Request by graduation
