Monarch Athletics Program

We know the value of being part of a team — sports participation is aligned with higher levels of self- esteem, academic performance, and emotional well-being. Our inclusive approach allows students to try new sports and participate on our Junior Varsity development teams or compete on our Varsity teams. Our sports teams regularly achieve all-league honors and qualify for NCS postseason play while building sportsmanship, teamwork, responsibility, and respect for self and others.
Sports at Holy Names include golf, soccer, swimming, volleyball, basketball, cross country, and track and field. Additional sports are added based on our students’ interests each year, and our coaching staff is comprised of both sport-specific coaches and faculty who have trusting relationships with our students.
Holy Names High School’s athletic program supports the school’s philosophy to uphold the importance of education while nurturing a student’s personal well being and healthy lifestyle. It is committed to teaching sportsmanship, teamwork, responsibility, and respect for self and others.  In order to participate in a sport, student-athletes MUST complete the medical forms found below.

Students are allowed to participate in two co-curricular activities during the same season. Students wishing to participate in two sports during the same season will need to obtain a request form from the athletic director and follow the guidelines set down by the athletic department involving dual sports participation.

Are you interested in becoming a collegiate student-athlete?
Here are some tips to help you start planning:

First & Second Year
  • Work hard to get the best grades possible.
  • Take classes that match Holy Names’ List of NCAA Courses. The NCAA Eligibility Center will use only approved core courses to certify your initial eligibility.
  • You can access and print your List of NCAA Courses at eligibility center. Click the NCAA College-Bound Student-Athlete link to enter and then navigate to the “Resources” tab and select “U.S. Students” where you will find the link for the List of NCAA Courses (or click here for direct the link).
  • At the beginning of your sophomore year, complete your online registration at eligibility center.
  • If you fall behind, do not take short cuts. Classes you take must be four-year college preparatory and must meet NCAA requirements.

Juniors
  • Register to take the ACT, SAT or both and use the NCAA Eligibility Center code “9999” as a score recipient. Doing this sends your official score directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Continue to take college preparatory courses. Double check to make sure the courses you have taken match our List of NCAA Courses.
  • Ask the Registrar to send an official transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center after completing your junior year. If you have attended more than one high school, the NCAA Eligibility Center will need official transcripts from all high schools attended. (The NCAA Eligibility Center does NOT accept faxed or emailed transcripts/test scores.) The NCAA Eligibility Center now accepts transcripts electronically through Docufide/Parchment.
  • Before registering for classes your senior year, check with your counselor to determine the number of core courses that you need to complete your senior year.

Seniors
  • Take the ACT and/or SAT again, if necessary. The NCAA Eligibility Center will use the best scores from each section of the ACT or SAT to determine your best cumulative score.
  • Continue to take college-preparatory courses.
  • Check the courses you have taken to match our List of NCAA Courses.
  • Review your amateurism responses and request final amateurism certification on or after April 1st (for fall enrollees) or October 1 (for spring enrollees).
  • Continue to work hard to get the best grades possible.
  • Graduate on time (in eight academic semesters).
  • After graduation, ask the Registrar to send your final transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center with proof of graduation. The NCAA Eligibility Center accepts transcripts electronically through Docufide/Parchment.
