| Spanish 4 continues the study of grammar with emphasis on conversation. Included is an introduction to classic and contemporary literature of the Hispanic world. Expected Spanish Learning Results: A Holy Names graduate is intellectually competent. She expresses herself effectively orally and in writing. The student will continue to speak and write in Spanish using correct grammar , syntax, and vocabulary. She will strive to improve her pro- nunciation through oral activities such as presentations and conversations. She utilizes appropriate tools and technologies to locate, evaluate and present information. The student will continue to utilize the various source materials such as verb charts, dictionaries and language specific web sites. She collaborates with others and works cooperatively to achieve her goals. The student will work in small groups to create dialogues, skits and presentations, and grammar exercises. A Holy Names graduate is committed to personal growth. She demonstrates respect for human diversity and dignity of all women beings. The student will refrain from showing prejudice by appreciating cultural and language differences. A Holy Names graduate is artistically enriched. She is aesthetically literate and understands works of art in their historical andcultural context. The student will appreciate artistic masterpieces of art through close studies of contribution from Spanish speaking countries.

Expectations EXPECTATIONS Spanish IV Mr. Gutierrez Text book: Galeria de Arte y Vida Your grade for each semester in this course will be based on the following: quiz 15% homework 10% essays 25% tests 25% oral participation 25% Semester 90% final exam 10% (Grading outlined in the handbook) This course is a partnership between the student and the teacher. I will be prepared and you are expected to be as well. To facilitate this, please read and sign the following contract: --A notebook is required. A dictionary is suggested. --Bring all books and materials to class every day (including kleenex ). --In the event of a planned absence (i.e. field trip), work must be turned in before you leave. --Be ready to start on time with pen, pencil, and paper when class begins. --If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. --Late work due to absence will be accepted no later than 2 days after coming back to school. --Fifteen or more absences per semester will result in failure; if you will be absent for several days, please call the school to arrange for your assignments to be sent to you. --NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!! --The student is to remain in her seat throughout class. Please throw out papers, tissues, etc. on your way out of class. --Written work must follow the writing format but pencil may be used as well as both sides of the paper. --Please save all handouts unless otherwise instructed. --Please save all corrected assignments and tests. --Spanish is to be spoken at all possible times. BEHAVIOR: All students will receive a citizenship grade of S (satisfactory, N (needs improvement), or U (unsatisfactory). The following actions are considered unsatisfactory: --not bringing books or materials to class (lowers their class participation too) --rudeness or disrespect toward others or the teacher --talking, eating, drinking, grooming, or putting on make-up --reading, sleeping, chewing gum or working on other class work --cheating --no cell phones, ipods, radios, etc. are allowed in the classroom, they are to be confiscated. ****Students who violate these policies will be warned via disciplinary referrals and/or calls to their parents. ORAL PARTICIPATION: The oral part of the grade reflects the willingness to use Spanish to the best of the student’s ability, since this accounts for 25% of the grade. Extra help may be arranged before or after school, or at lunch time. The student is asked to make an appointment as soon as possible if she is having difficulty in the subject. ****I usually upgrade my students’ grades every two weeks.
