The ESLRs and Social Studies
A Holy Names graduate is...
A woman of faith:
Social Studies courses give our students opportunities to make their own ethical and moral opinions and decisions regarding existing and past social, economic, political, and religious institutions and issues.
Intellectually competent:
Social Studies courses build skills that enable our students to think critically and independently and give them the chance to use these skills in strategizing how to solve social, economic, and political problems. Social studies courses give students practice in reading for comprehension and expressing themselves effectively orally and in writing, enable them to use appropriate tools and technologies to locate, evaluate and present information through projects, research assignments, debates, simulations, and other presentations, and allow them to collaborate with others in small groups.
Committed to personal growth:
Social Studies courses enable our students to develop and demonstrate academic integrity and honesty when they do their own work even when collaborating with others, and by giving them an awareness of the diversity and contributions of groups that affect and shape national and global institutions, while building respect for the dignity of all human beings.
Artistically enriched:
Social Studies courses give students opportunities to express their understanding of our nation and world through the creation of visual and oral projects and presentations.
