Welcome to the Dean's page! Although I am here at Holy Names to assist students with behavior, attendance, and punctuality, I am hoping that students will realize that I am available to them for much more. Please drop by my office when in need and if I cannot help you I will point you in the right direction to find the best resource for you here at Holy Names.

A Holy Names High School Graduate is a woman of faith

Your analysis of historical events will give you the opportunity to develop and apply your own ethical and moral values. You will also learn about the diverse spiritual traditions that have influenced American culture.

A Holy Names High School Graduate is intellectually competent

You will develop original opinions from research and analysis of historical issues and will become fluent in the use of online databases for historical research. You will regularly examine primary and secondary sources beyond the textbook and integrate these sources into your analysis as well. This year will require more expository writing than previous years and you will focus on developing arguments that are well supported with evidence. In addition, this writing will require you to consider historical issues at a college-level of analysis, which requires intellectual initiative and curiosity on your part to reach that level. Mrs. Homertgen expects lively classroom discussion and you will develop your ability to express such arguments orally. Finally, this class requires lots of cooperative work and you will develop your ability to collaborate with others on a variety of tasks.

A Holy Names High School Graduate is committed to personal growth

This class will help you demonstrate academic integrity and honesty when you do your work, even if you are collaborating with others. This course’s large workload also requires you to raise your level of organization, discipline and personal responsibility as a student. In addition, your study of U.S. history will emphasize the roots of this nation’s racial, ethnic and cultural diversity and the ongoing challenges of this diversity. This work will help you respect human diversity and the dignity of all human beings, which is at the foundation of our American ideals.

A Holy Names High School Graduate is artistically enriched

You will be given the opportunity to express your knowledge in such artistic forms as skits, political cartoons and posters. This course will also use visual and literary works of art to enhance your knowledge of important historical events and movements.

A Holy Names High School Graduate serves others

Your study of the lives of the politically, socially and economically oppressed members of American society throughout history will deepen your understanding of social justice.
