GRADUATION REUIREMENTS
It is expected that each Holy Names graduate successfully completes a curricular program which meets the requirements for admission to the University of California. 260 credits are required for graduation. Minimum subject requirements include 4 years of English, 4 years of Religious Studies, 4 years of Social Studies, 3 years of Mathematics, 2 years of Foreign Language, 2 years of Laboratory Science, 2 years of Visual and Performing Arts, 1.5 years of Physical Education/Health, 0.5 years of Technology.
CURRICULUM
Students take seven courses each semester. Courses include both Honors and Advanced Placement Courses for those students who are eligible. A variety of enrichment classes, particularly in the Visual and Performing Arts, are available as well.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT
Advanced Placement courses are offered in the following areas: Calculus, Chemistry, English Literature and Composition, French Language, French Literature, Spanish Language, Studio Art, and U.S. History.
HONORS CLASSES
Honors classes are offered in Geometry, Advanced Algebra/Trig, Pre Calculus, English 9, English 10, English 11, Government and Economics, and Chemistry.
VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS
Holy Names High School has a long tradition of offering an outstanding Visual and PErforming Arts program with the opportunity for students to participate in a four-year program in art, drama, choral, and instrumental music.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Student Activities at Holy NAmes have always focused on developing student leadership and on providing opportunities to establish friendships and enjoy a variety of social activities. Students are encouraged to participate in at least one of the following co-curricular activities: Campus Ministry, Student Council, Class Council, Drama Productions, Art and Film Club, Mock Trial, Model United Nations, California Scholarship Federation, Echoes Yearbook Staff, Holy News Student Newspaper, Multicultural Club, Pep Club, Thespian Club, Ambassadors, Dance Squad, or National Honor Society.
MIDSESSION
A two-week period between first and second semesters allows students to select from a wide range of on-campus, off-campus classes, community service, and internships.
ATHLETICS
Holy Names students compete in 8 sports in the Bayshore Athletic League. In the last five years, every one of the Holy Names High School teams has earned special North Coast Section recognition for a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and more than half of our athletes have been recognized by North Coast Section for GPAs of 3.5 or higher.
